Could a cannabis oil ease chemo nerve damage?
NCT ID NCT07016971
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study is testing whether a commercially available CBG/CBD oil is safe and can help reduce nerve pain, numbness, and tingling caused by platinum-based chemotherapy. Twelve adults with gastrointestinal cancers who have completed chemotherapy will take the oil under the tongue twice daily for 12 weeks. Researchers will track side effects, how well participants stick with the treatment, and any changes in their nerve symptoms.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
CBG/CBD oil (a hemp extract taken under the tongue)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new way to manage nerve pain and numbness caused by chemotherapy, without strong side effects.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-phase study with only 12 people, so results may not apply widely. The oil is a dietary supplement, not a regulated drug, and its effects are not yet proven.
