CBD vs THC: can cannabidiol take the edge off cannabis's psychoactive effects?

NCT ID NCT06099379

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether different doses of cannabidiol (CBD) can reduce the psychoactive effects of THC in healthy adults who use cannabis occasionally. One hundred participants will inhale various combinations of CBD and THC and report their experiences. The goal is to find out if CBD can make the 'high' from THC less intense or more manageable.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - inhaled

What this could lead to

If it works, this could help people better understand how CBD might reduce the 'high' from THC, potentially leading to safer cannabis products.

What could go wrong

This is an early-phase study in healthy volunteers, not patients. The results may not apply to regular users or medical conditions, and the effects of CBD on THC are still uncertain.
