CBD vs. Late-Night exercise: sleep savior or hype?

NCT ID NCT07570472

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether taking CBD before bed can improve sleep quality after a late evening high-intensity workout. Twenty healthy adults will each complete a rest session and two exercise sessions, receiving either CBD or a placebo. Sleep is measured overnight using brain-wave monitoring to see if CBD helps offset the sleep disruption caused by exercising close to bedtime.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Cannabidiol (CBD)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a natural supplement to help people sleep better after late-night workouts.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-phase trial with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. CBD may not improve sleep efficiency more than placebo.
