Cash after prison: $1,000 a month could cut crime and boost health

NCT ID NCT07265375

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether giving people leaving prison a monthly cash payment ($1,000 for the first month, then $750 for 11 months) helps them stay healthy, find stable housing, avoid going back to jail, and manage their finances. Researchers will follow 450 adults in Nebraska for one year after their release. The goal is to see if this simple financial support can ease the difficult transition back into the community.
