Can learning about pain or using tape ease carpal tunnel symptoms?

NCT ID NCT07539480

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests two simple treatments for mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome: pain neuroscience education (learning how the brain processes pain) and kinesio taping (applying elastic tape to the wrist). Sixty adults aged 18 to 60 with symptoms for at least 3 months will receive one of these treatments for 6 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in pain, hand function, and grip strength to see which approach works better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
pain neuroscience education (PNE) and kinesio taping (KT)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that simple, non-invasive approaches like education or taping can reduce pain and improve hand function for people with mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 people. Results may not apply to everyone, and neither treatment is expected to cure the condition—only to ease symptoms temporarily.
