A simple tool may ease caregiver burden and shield older adults from harm

NCT ID NCT07749482

First seen Aug 06, 2026 · Last updated Aug 07, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests a structured tool called CSNAT that helps family caregivers identify their own support needs and have guided conversations with a nurse practitioner. About 80 caregivers of older adults receiving home-based primary care will either use the tool or receive usual care. The goal is to see if the tool is practical and acceptable, and whether it can reduce caregiver strain and improve well-being, which might also lower the risk of elder mistreatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Carer Support Needs Assessment Tool (CSNAT) intervention
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a practical way to support family caregivers, reducing their stress and potentially lowering the risk of elder mistreatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention's effectiveness is uncertain, and it may not be feasible in all home-based care settings.
