Pacemaker tweak may also lower blood pressure

NCT ID NCT04463121

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether special pacing signals from a pacemaker can improve heart function and lower blood pressure in people who need a pacemaker and also have high blood pressure. Researchers will measure heart pressure and volume using a thin catheter inside the heart. The goal is to see if these signals can help control blood pressure while treating a slow heart rate.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Cardiac Neuromodulation Therapy (CNT) pacing signals delivered via a pacemaker device

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help develop a pacemaker-based treatment that lowers blood pressure while managing slow heart rate.

What could go wrong

This is a small, short-term study done just before a pacemaker implant, so results may not apply to long-term use or to broader patient groups.
