Could fewer heart scans be safer for breast cancer patients?
NCT ID NCT07630402
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tests whether a personalized approach to heart imaging can safely reduce the number of echocardiograms women with early-stage breast cancer need during HER2-targeted therapy. The goal is to avoid unnecessary tests while still catching any heart side effects early. Twenty women will be enrolled, and researchers will track how many imaging tests are done and how long it takes to complete their cancer treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a smarter, safer way to monitor heart health during breast cancer treatment, reducing the burden of extra tests.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (20 participants) with no control group, so results may not apply broadly. The approach may not reliably detect heart problems early.
