New PET scan could spot rare heart disease earlier

NCT ID NCT05184088

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 30 times

Summary

This study tested whether a special PET scan using a radioactive tracer called [18F]Florbetaben can accurately diagnose cardiac AL amyloidosis, a rare condition where abnormal proteins build up in the heart. Researchers enrolled 244 adults with suspected cardiac amyloidosis and compared the scan results to standard biopsy methods. The goal was to see if this imaging technique could provide a less invasive way to confirm the diagnosis.
