New drug combo shows promise for Hard-to-Treat ovarian cancer

NCT ID NCT04606914

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial is testing a combination of the targeted drug mirvetuximab soravtansine and the chemotherapy carboplatin as a first treatment for women with advanced ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer that has a specific marker (folate receptor alpha). About 70 participants will receive the drugs before and after surgery to remove visible tumors. The goal is to see if this approach improves how long the cancer stays under control.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

mirvetuximab soravtansine (a targeted drug that delivers chemotherapy to cancer cells with a specific marker) combined with carboplatin (a standard chemotherapy)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a more effective first-line treatment option for women with advanced ovarian cancer that has a specific marker (folate receptor alpha).

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase (phase 2) study with only 70 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The drug combination may cause side effects, and it is not yet known if it improves survival compared to standard care.
