Could CAR-T cells tame severe colitis? early trial launches
NCT ID NCT07435779
First seen Mar 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This early-phase trial tests whether a patient's own immune cells, engineered to target BCMA and/or CD19, can calm severe ulcerative colitis that hasn't responded to other treatments. Twelve adults with moderate-to-severe active disease will receive a single infusion of these CAR-T cells. The main goal is to check safety and see if it leads to clinical remission within 12 weeks.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
CAR-T cells (BCMA, CD19, or both) made from the patient's own blood
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment for severe ulcerative colitis that doesn't respond to standard therapies.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small trial with only 12 people. CAR-T therapy can cause serious side effects like cytokine release syndrome and nerve problems. It may not work or may be too risky.
Conditions
The condition(s) this trial relates to.
As listed by the trial registrant
