Scientists reprogram Patient's own cells to attack deadly chest cancers

Summary
This trial is testing a new treatment for advanced cancers that have spread to the lining of the chest (pleura), including mesothelioma, lung cancer, and breast cancer. Doctors collect a patient's own immune cells (T cells), genetically modify them to recognize a cancer protein called mesothelin, and then infuse them directly into the chest cavity. The study first aims to find a safe dose and then tests that dose combined with an immunotherapy drug (pembrolizumab) specifically for mesothelioma patients.
