Poop pills aim to treat painful skin disease
NCT ID NCT06058520
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early study tests whether taking capsules containing donor fecal bacteria can change the gut and skin bacteria of people with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a painful skin condition. Sixteen adults with HS will receive either the bacteria capsules or a placebo for three weeks. The main goal is to see if the donor bacteria take hold in the gut, not yet to measure symptom improvement.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Fecal microbiota (donor stool) in capsules
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for hidradenitis suppurativa by changing gut bacteria.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small pilot study with only 16 people. It primarily checks if the bacteria transfer works, not if it improves symptoms. Many early trials do not lead to effective treatments.
