Doctors test if slower pain shots reduce addiction risk in cancer patients
NCT ID NCT04296305
Summary
This study aims to find the best way to give intravenous pain medicine to hospitalized cancer patients. Researchers are comparing whether giving the drug hydromorphone quickly over 2 minutes or slowly over 15 minutes provides better pain relief while lowering the risk of patients liking the drug's 'high' feeling too much. The trial involves 84 cancer patients with moderate to severe pain, testing both methods in a crossover design to gather evidence for safer pain management guidelines.
