Can a high-tech insulin system and low-carb diet fix a dangerous diabetes complication?
NCT ID NCT04614168
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 29 times
Summary
This study looked at 24 people with long-standing type 1 diabetes to see if using an automated insulin delivery system plus a low-carbohydrate diet for 8 months could restore their body's ability to release glucagon during low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Glucagon is a hormone that helps raise blood sugar, and its loss increases the risk of severe hypoglycemia. The goal was to understand if tight glucose control can fix this defect, not to cure the disease.
