Prosthetists may spot hidden health issues in amputees

NCT ID NCT05410548

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looked at whether prosthetists (the professionals who fit artificial limbs) can screen for common health problems that often go unnoticed after a leg amputation, such as poor blood flow, nerve damage, depression, and back pain. 70 adults with a below- or above-knee amputation who had used a prosthesis for at least a year took part. Some received standard care, while others also got screenings from their prosthetist and had results sent to their primary doctor. The goal was to see if this extra step increases awareness of these issues and improves patient satisfaction with their prosthetic care.
