First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether providing free glasses to older adults in India who need them can slow down age-related cognitive decline. Over 800 people aged 60 and older with uncorrected vision problems will be randomly assigned to receive glasses or not. Researchers will track changes in thinking, memory, falls, mood, and quality of life over three years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Free near and distance spectacles (glasses)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that correcting vision with glasses helps slow age-related cognitive decline and improve quality of life in older adults.
What could go wrong
This is a single trial in one region, and the effect may be small or not apply to other populations. Glasses alone may not prevent cognitive decline if other factors are at play.
