New combo aims to shrink head and neck tumors before surgery

NCT ID NCT07400094

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether giving a combination of the immunotherapy drug camrelizumab and two chemotherapy drugs (paclitaxel and carboplatin) before surgery can improve outcomes for people with advanced oral cavity or larynx cancer. Fifty participants will receive three cycles of the drug combo, then undergo surgery to remove the tumor. The study will measure how many tumors completely disappear or shrink significantly, and track survival over three years.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
camrelizumab (an immunotherapy drug) combined with paclitaxel and carboplatin (chemotherapy drugs)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could shrink tumors before surgery, potentially improving long-term survival and reducing the need for additional treatments after surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (50 people) with no control group, so results may not be definitive. Immunotherapy can cause serious side effects like inflammation of organs.
