New imaging probe aims to spot kidney cancer earlier
NCT ID NCT07590310
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-phase trial is testing a new radioactive imaging agent called 68Ga/18F-CAIX-LT-BCH to see if it can better detect clear cell renal cell carcinoma, a common type of kidney cancer. The study involves 3 participants who will receive the agent and undergo a PET/CT scan. The goal is to improve early, non-invasive diagnosis by targeting a protein called CAIX, which is highly expressed in these tumors.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
68Ga/18F-CAIX-LT-BCH (a radioactive imaging agent)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a more accurate, non-invasive way to detect clear cell kidney cancer early, potentially improving patient outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small trial with only 3 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The imaging agent may not perform as well in larger studies.
