Caffeine may clear the fog after surgery for seniors

NCT ID NCT05574400

First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving caffeine to adults aged 70 and older after major surgery can reduce their risk of postoperative delirium—a state of sudden confusion that can slow recovery. About 250 participants are being followed to see if caffeine helps them think more clearly and recover faster. The goal is to find a simple, safe way to improve brain function after surgery.
