NCT ID NCT07076654
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether giving women a 200 mg caffeine pill before spinal anesthesia for a planned C-section could prevent a dangerous drop in blood pressure. 90 full-term pregnant women took part. Half received caffeine, half a placebo. The main goal was to see how many women in each group developed low blood pressure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
caffeine (200 mg oral pill)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way to prevent low blood pressure during C-sections, making the procedure safer for mothers.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center trial with only 90 participants. The results may not apply to all women, and caffeine can cause side effects like jitters or rapid heartbeat.
