NCT ID NCT07655245
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether giving a 200 mg caffeine pill 30 minutes before spinal anesthesia can reduce the amount of blood pressure medication needed during a planned C-section. About 62 full-term pregnant women will take part. The goal is to see if caffeine helps prevent dangerous drops in blood pressure, which can harm both mother and baby.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
caffeine (200 mg oral)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way to prevent dangerous drops in blood pressure during C-sections.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 62 participants. Caffeine may not reduce blood pressure medication needs, and some people may have side effects like jitteriness or heart palpitations.
