Can a daily caffeine dose protect premature Babies' breathing at home?

NCT ID NCT06518603

Summary

This study is testing whether giving caffeine citrate to moderately preterm babies for 28 days after they leave the hospital can prevent dangerous pauses in breathing (apnea) that lead to emergency visits. It will also check if this treatment helps the babies' development at 12 months old. Researchers will compare the caffeine treatment to a placebo (inactive substance) in 340 infants in Zambia to see which group has fewer breathing problems and better health outcomes.
