New blood test aims to spot lyme disease in kids faster and more accurately
NCT ID NCT06045416
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study aims to develop a better blood test for early Lyme disease in children. Current tests often miss early infections or give false positives. Researchers will also study the immune response and the types of Lyme bacteria involved. About 500 children with suspected Lyme disease will participate, providing blood samples over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a more accurate diagnostic test for early Lyme disease in children, reducing false positives and missed cases.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study, not a treatment trial. The new test may not prove more accurate than existing methods, and results may not apply to all children.
