New brief therapy aims to curb self-injury in veterans
NCT ID NCT05969080
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a short behavioral therapy called T-SIB designed to help veterans reduce nonsuicidal self-injury (like cutting or burning) and improve how they function day-to-day. Researchers will enroll 40 veterans who have self-injured at least twice in the past month. Half will receive T-SIB, and the other half will get usual care and referrals. The main goal is to see if the therapy is feasible and acceptable, not yet to prove it works.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Treatment for Self-Injurious Behaviors (T-SIB), a brief behavioral therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a short, effective therapy option to help veterans stop self-injury and improve their daily lives.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early feasibility study with only 40 participants. It is designed to see if the therapy is acceptable and practical, not yet to prove it works. Results may not apply to all veterans.
