Could a monthly shot ease schizophrenia treatment?
NCT ID NCT07742280
First seen Aug 03, 2026 · Last updated Aug 04, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial is testing a new extended-release injection of brexpiprazole, a medication already used for schizophrenia, to see how it behaves in the body and whether it is safe and tolerable. About 16 adults with schizophrenia will receive a single dose of either 45 mg or 100 mg under the skin. Researchers will measure drug levels in the blood and monitor for side effects, including changes in vital signs, lab tests, and mood.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Brexpiprazole for extended-release injection
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a long-acting injectable version of brexpiprazole, offering a more convenient dosing option for people with schizophrenia.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study with only 16 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The main focus is safety and drug levels, not effectiveness, and side effects are possible.
