VA tests new breathing therapy to fight deadly sleep disorder in spinal cord injury patients

NCT ID NCT05536076

Summary

This VA study is testing whether daily breathing exercises can help people with spinal cord injuries who also have sleep apnea. Researchers want to see if breathing air with slightly more carbon dioxide for short periods can strengthen breathing muscles and reduce sleep apnea severity. The study will enroll 30 veterans with chronic spinal cord injuries to test if this approach is safe, tolerable, and shows promise for improving breathing and sleep.
