Could simple breathing exercises reshape the Mouth's microbial world?
NCT ID NCT07755111
First seen Aug 10, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial explores whether a program of pranayamic breathing techniques and tongue exercises can alter the oral microbiota—the community of bacteria in the mouth—in children aged 7 to 12. Participants, grouped by whether they breathe through their mouth or nose, will follow the exercise program for 8 weeks. Saliva samples taken before and after will be analyzed to see if bacterial diversity changes. The study aims to shed light on how breathing patterns and oral exercises might influence oral health.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A structured program of pranayamic breathing techniques, tongue exercises, and, in some groups, tongue cleaning
- What this could lead to
- If the exercises shift oral bacteria in a beneficial way, this could point toward simple, drug-free habits to support children's oral health.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early exploratory study, so any effects may be modest or not apply broadly. The main measure is a lab test of bacterial diversity, not a direct health outcome.
