New hope to avoid breathing tubes for cancer patients in crisis

NCT ID NCT02464696

Summary

This study is testing if a special oxygen mask, called non-invasive ventilation, is better than standard high-flow oxygen at helping cancer patients with sudden, severe breathing problems. The main goal is to see if the mask can reduce the need for doctors to place a breathing tube down the patient's throat, which is a major procedure. Researchers will compare the two methods in 256 hospitalized patients to see which one leads to better breathing and shorter hospital stays.
