Can simple breathing techniques tune your heart and lungs?
NCT ID NCT07739238
First seen Jul 31, 2026 · Last updated Jul 31, 2026
Summary
This trial investigates how different breathing exercises—diaphragmatic, square breathing, alternative nostril, and dynamic neuromuscular stabilization—affect lung function and heart rate variability in healthy adults aged 18–30. Participants will practice their assigned technique for 20 minutes, four times a week, over six weeks. Researchers will measure breathing and heart rate responses before, immediately after the first session, and after the training period to see which exercise offers the most benefit.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- breathing exercises (diaphragmatic, square breathing, alternative nostril, and dynamic neuromuscular stabilization-based)
- What this could lead to
- If one technique proves more effective, it could guide which breathing exercise to recommend for relaxation and heart health.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is small and early, so results may not apply broadly. Effects may vary by individual, and the study doesn't measure long-term health outcomes.
