Seed vs wire: which tumor marker leads to cleaner breast cancer surgery?
NCT ID NCT02759133
First seen Jan 31, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study tested two ways to mark small, non-palpable breast tumors before surgery: a tiny radioactive seed (iodine-125) versus a standard metal wire. 350 women with early-stage breast cancer took part. The goal was to see if the seed method helps surgeons remove the tumor completely in one go, reducing the need for repeat surgery. Results will show which technique gives cleaner margins and less pain.
