New study aims to stop sore throats after surgery by testing better breathing tube monitoring
NCT ID NCT07341646
First seen Jan 18, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study tests three methods of checking the pressure in the breathing tube's cuff during breast surgery. The goal is to see which method best prevents sore throat, hoarseness, cough, and trouble swallowing after the operation. Ninety women having elective breast surgery will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: continuous pressure monitoring, a one-time manual check, or inflating the cuff with just enough air to seal the airway. Researchers will track symptoms for 24 hours after surgery.
