Scientists decode Mother's milk to unlock secrets of Baby's first microbes

NCT ID NCT01817127

Summary

This observational study aims to understand how the sugars, fats, and proteins in breast milk vary between mothers, especially those with or without diabetes, and how these components influence the development of an infant's gut bacteria. Researchers are collecting and analyzing milk samples from about 400 mothers over time to see how diet, health, and other factors change milk composition. The goal is to build knowledge about how breast milk supports infant health, with no direct treatment being tested.
