Could armpit surgery become unnecessary for many breast cancer patients?

NCT ID NCT06704945

Summary

This large study is testing whether women with breast cancer who have no signs of cancer in their armpit lymph nodes on an ultrasound after chemotherapy can safely skip having those lymph nodes surgically removed. The goal is to see if avoiding this surgery leads to similar long-term cancer control while reducing side effects like arm swelling and pain. It will compare the outcomes of patients who skip the surgery to those who have the standard lymph node procedure.
