Major trial challenges need for routine lymph node surgery in breast cancer
NCT ID NCT04303715
Summary
This large study is testing whether some women with early-stage breast cancer can safely skip a common surgical procedure called a sentinel lymph node biopsy. The procedure can cause lasting side effects like arm swelling and pain. Researchers are comparing survival and recurrence rates in over 1,700 patients who either have the standard biopsy or skip it, using careful ultrasound screening instead.
