What the study statuses mean

This study's is highlighted.

Recruitment status, easiest to join first

This trial is taking on new participants right now.
Not yet recruiting
Registered, but not yet taking participants.
By invitation only
Not open to general applications. Only people the study team invites can take part.
Paused
Paused for now. It may or may not start again.
Ongoing
Running, but no longer taking on new participants.
Completed
The trial has finished. Results may not be published yet.
Stopped early
Stopped early, before it reached the end. That can be for many reasons, including safety.
Cancelled
Cancelled before anyone took part.

Expanded access (not trials)

Expanded access
Not a trial. This treatment can be requested outside a study, case by case, for people who qualify.
Expanded access (paused)
Not a trial. The treatment can normally be requested outside a study, but is unavailable right now.
Expanded access (ended)
Not a trial. The treatment could once be requested outside a study, but no longer can.
Approved
The treatment has been approved, so it is available normally rather than through this programme.

Summary

Researchers in Bogota, Colombia, are reviewing the medical records of 370 women treated for breast cancer between 2014 and 2024. They want to see how different molecular subtypes of the disease relate to survival, recurrence, treatment response, and side effects. The study also looks at how the COVID-19 pandemic and health insurance type affected outcomes, and estimates the direct medical costs of care. No treatments are assigned or changed; the team only studies existing records.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
The findings could help doctors in Colombia match treatments to breast cancer subtypes and plan care budgets more accurately.
What could go wrong
This is a look back at old records from one hospital, so it cannot prove cause and effect, and the results may not apply to other clinics or countries.

Who is studied

Women 18 years or older with histologically confirmed breast cancer and a documented molecular subtype who were treated and/or followed at Hospital Universitario Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá (Bogotá, Colombia) between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2024, identified through institutional clinical databases, pathology reports and oncology follow-up records.

Inclusion Criteria: * Patients older than 18 years with a histopathologically confirmed diagnosis of breast cancer. * Treated at Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2024. * Available record of the tumor molecular subtype (luminal A, luminal B HER2-negative, luminal B HER2-positive, HER2-enriched or triple-negative), determined by immunohistochemistry and/or in situ hybridization. Exclusion Criteria: * Metastatic tumors from another primary site involving the breast (for example, breast metastases from another primary tumor). * Lesions of uncertain malignant potential or in situ tumors. * Incomplete or missing information on molecular subtype, treatment received or clinical outcomes. * Oncology follow-up outside the institution without adequate traceability of clinical outcomes.
