MRI may let thousands of breast cancer patients ditch radiation

NCT ID NCT06445738

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing whether a special MRI scan before surgery can identify women with early breast cancer who have a very low risk of the cancer coming back. If so, they may be able to skip radiotherapy after surgery, avoiding its side effects. The trial will follow 1,400 women aged 50 and older for up to 10 years to see how often the cancer returns in the same breast.
