New drug combo aims to stop breast cancer return in High-Risk patients
NCT ID NCT05760612
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This Phase 3 trial tests whether a combination of trastuzumab and neratinib works better than the standard trastuzumab and pertuzumab for women with a certain type of breast cancer (HER2-positive, hormone receptor-positive) who still have small amounts of cancer after initial chemotherapy and targeted therapy. About 300 women will be randomly assigned to one of the two drug pairs. The main goal is to see which combination better prevents the cancer from coming back.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Trastuzumab and neratinib (drug combination)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a more effective treatment option for HER2-positive breast cancer patients who still have some cancer after initial therapy, potentially reducing the risk of the cancer coming back.
- What could go wrong
- This is a Phase 3 trial, but it's still experimental. The new combination may not be better than the current standard, and side effects like diarrhea or heart problems are possible. Results may not apply to all patients.
