Gene mutation may alter how breast cancer responds to hormone therapy
NCT ID NCT06127979
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at how breast cancer cells change after a short course of hormone therapy in women with and without a BRCA2 gene mutation. Researchers will measure a protein called Ki67, which indicates how fast cancer cells are growing. The goal is to see if BRCA2 carriers have a different response, which could help tailor future treatments.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
endocrine therapy (given before surgery)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors understand whether BRCA2 mutation carriers respond differently to endocrine therapy, potentially guiding more personalized treatment decisions.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage observational study (42 participants) that does not test a new treatment. It may not lead to immediate changes in care, and results may not apply to all patients.
