Sound waves open Brain's defenses to attack deadly tumors

NCT ID NCT03551249

Summary

This study tested whether a focused ultrasound device called ExAblate could safely and temporarily open the blood-brain barrier—a natural protective layer—in patients with aggressive brain tumors (glioblastoma). The goal was to see if opening this barrier could help standard chemotherapy drugs reach the tumor area more effectively. Researchers enrolled 20 patients who were already scheduled to receive chemotherapy to evaluate the safety and feasibility of this approach.
