Brain exercises tested to lift mood and sharpen mind in older adults with depression

NCT ID NCT04790630

Summary

This study tested whether computer-based brain training exercises could improve thinking skills and reduce depression in older adults who were already taking antidepressants. Researchers enrolled 38 older adults with mild to major depression, some with mild memory concerns, and randomly assigned them to different activities. They used MRI brain scans to see if the training changed brain activity while aiming to better manage depression and potentially slow cognitive decline.
