First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a gentle, low-level electric current applied to specific brain areas can improve speech and language difficulties in people with primary progressive aphasia (PPA) and progressive apraxia of speech (PAOS). The treatment is called high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS). The study involves 12 participants aged 18 to 85 who have a formal diagnosis of PPA or PAOS. Researchers will measure changes in speech, language, and other cognitive abilities using standard tests and brain wave recordings (EEG).
