Could a zappy headband ease shingles nerve pain?
NCT ID NCT07352553
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a non-invasive brain stimulation device can reduce the persistent nerve pain that sometimes follows a shingles infection. Researchers will compare real stimulation to a sham (fake) procedure in 94 adults who have had pain for at least 3 months. Participants receive 30-minute sessions daily for 10 days, and the team will track changes in pain, sleep, and quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
non-invasive transcranial electrical stimulation
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a drug-free option to reduce stubborn nerve pain after shingles.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with no phase assigned. The sham control means some may not benefit, and results may not apply to everyone with postherpetic neuralgia.
