First seen Nov 06, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested whether a non-invasive brain stimulation technique (transcranial electrical stimulation) could reduce mania symptoms in people with bipolar or schizoaffective disorder. Fourteen adults with mild to moderate mania received the stimulation targeting a brain area linked to impulse control and risk-taking. The goal was to see if this approach could safely ease manic episodes without the side effects of current medications.
