Triple threat: new combo aims to tackle breast cancer brain metastases
NCT ID NCT04711824
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a three-part approach for people with breast cancer that has spread to the brain. First, they receive focused radiation (stereotactic radiosurgery) along with a drug called olaparib, which may make cancer cells more sensitive to radiation. After that, they get an immunotherapy drug (durvalumab) plus standard chemotherapy. The goal is to see if this combination is safe and helps control brain tumors. The trial is currently recruiting 41 participants with triple-negative or BRCA-mutated breast cancer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Olaparib (Lynparza) and durvalumab (Imfinzi)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for people with breast cancer that has spread to the brain, potentially improving control of brain tumors.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial with only 41 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The combination of drugs and radiation may cause side effects, and it is not yet known if it works better than standard care.
