Brain scans reveal secrets of dementia: a new hope for diagnosis

NCT ID NCT01800214

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This long-term study uses yearly brain scans, genetic tests, and thinking/memory assessments to track changes in nearly 1,800 people with various dementias (like Alzheimer's and vascular dementia) and over 140 healthy older adults. The goal is to better understand how different dementias affect the brain over time, which could lead to more accurate diagnosis and better monitoring of future treatments. Researchers are also exploring other potential markers like eye movements and balance.
