New combo tackles Platinum-Resistant gynecologic cancers
NCT ID NCT04395079
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether combining internal radiation (brachytherapy) with two immunotherapy drugs, durvalumab and tremelimumab, can help women with gynecologic cancers that are resistant to platinum chemotherapy. The study includes 9 participants with ovarian, endometrial, or cervical cancer that has returned or spread. Researchers are checking for side effects and whether the treatment slows cancer growth.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
durvalumab and tremelimumab (immunotherapy drugs) plus brachytherapy (internal radiation)
What this could lead to
If successful, this combination could offer a new treatment option for women with gynecologic cancers that no longer respond to standard chemotherapy.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early-phase trial with only 9 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The combination of radiation and immunotherapy may cause significant side effects.
