Shake and inject: new combo fights bone loss in spinal injury patients
NCT ID NCT01225055
Summary
This study tested whether a daily injection (teriparatide) and/or daily vibration therapy could help rebuild bone in people with long-term spinal cord injuries who cannot walk. Sixty participants were assigned to receive either the drug, the vibration, both, or neither for one year to see which approach best improved bone density in the hip and spine. The goal was to find a treatment to control and potentially reverse the severe bone loss that often follows a spinal cord injury.
