First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 28 times
Summary
This study follows 240 teenagers and young adults aged 13-21 to see how weight-loss surgery (gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy) impacts bone density and strength over two years. It compares those who have surgery with overweight teens who do not. The goal is to understand if these surgeries cause bone loss in younger people, similar to what is seen in adults.
