New study tests animal and donor bone plates for jaw implants
NCT ID NCT06661447
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares three ways to rebuild bone in the back of the lower jaw before placing dental implants. Seventy-eight adults will receive a graft made from their own bone, cow bone, or donated human bone. The main goal is to see which method adds the most width to the jawbone after 6 months, with follow-up up to a year.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cortical shell bone graft (autogenous, xenogeneic, or allogeneic bone plates with bone chips and substitute)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could identify a reliable, less invasive bone grafting method for dental implants, reducing the need for harvesting the patient's own bone.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial (78 people) comparing surgical techniques, not testing a new drug. Results may not apply to all patients, and complications like graft failure or infection are possible.
